Motivation

What happens to your digital identity and assets if you suddenly lose the ability to control your wallet (for example in a fatal accident)? Do you want someone in your family or friends to take over? But how?

You could just share your seed phrase/private key on a piece of paper to be placed in a vault somewhere. That’s okay if you trust that the vault is safe, trust that your family/friends can restore the wallet, and trust that they won’t do it at any time without your permission.

You could use one of the available third-party recovery setups, for example via email. That’s okay if you trust that this third party will be available when the time comes, trust that your family/friends can complete the recovery process, and - in the example of email - share access to the account and trust that they won’t lose access.

That’s a lot of trust requirements. What if you don’t want to trust anything other than the availability of the chain? What if you don’t want to give away any control before such a scenario happens? That’s where our solution comes in.

Using nextofus, you can set up another Universal Profile as the next/dedicated owner, giving them an easy way to perform the recovery of your UP. A time-lock mechanism prevents them from recovering your profile unless you let it happen by not blocking the request.

But does this mean you’ll have to trust us? No, everything is set up in a way that allows you to not trust but verify.
